The Women Leaders for the World class of 2012 began their program in July 2012 and will graduate in January 2013, upon completion of the required coursework and leadership coaching sessions.

Adriana Barbosa

Organization: Institute Feira Preta (Brazil)
Role: Coordinator
Vision: Self esteem and economic development of Afro-Brazilian population.
Millennium Development Goal: Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women (3)
Accomplishments:
- Inspire young blacks to be undertake their own business.
- Replicate the model of management of the black fair in other locations in the form of social franchise.


Barbara-Bylenga

Organization: Open A Door Foundation (USA)
Role: Founder and President
Vision: Empower potential leaders from crisis countries by helping them win US scholarships.
Millennium Development Goal: Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women (3)
Accomplishment: Last year, our first year, we helped 4 women from Rwanda win US scholarships at top-ranked U.S colleges. We turned $20,000 in seed money into $1,000,000 in educational funds.

Vision: Create future female leaders from impoverished countries by identifying and guiding top high school graduates through the admissions and financial aid process in order to gain US degrees and return home as change-makers.

Accomplishment: Joining Open A Door as a volunteer.

Deanna-Kosaraju

Role: Founder
Vision: Recruit and retain more women in the field of technology and support them locally and globally.
Millennium Development Goal: Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women (3)
Accomplishments:
- Decrease isolation, provide role models, and create consistent support structures.
- Create a goal-oriented network that will provide each woman with a roadmap for advancement and career success.
- Highlight and celebrate that this success comes in many forms and should not be prescribed.

Role: Founder and Visual Thinker
Vision: Connect and empower women around the world with matching interests.

Accomplishments:
- Created a discussion forum on how to empower women around the world using technology.
- Used visual art to inspire women in expressing a free mind.

Organization: Global Family Village (USA)
Role: Executive Director
Vision: Providing Family and Community for Orphaned, Abandoned or Disenfranchised Children.
Millennium Development Goal: Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger (1)
Accomplishments:
- Establishing a Teacher Training Program in Nepal for Primary and Preprimary Education.
- Founding an organization to help orphaned children.


Gayten Harmon

Role: Partnership Manager
Vision: To provide the necessary infrastructure within Global Women's Leadership Network (GWLN).
Millennium Development Goal: Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women (3); Develop a Global Partnership for Development (8)
Accomplishments:
- Received recognition as President of "The Corporate Action" in San Francisco.
- Received "The Founders Day" award by the Portola Valley School District.

Role: Financial Supporter& Volunteer Project Coordinator.
Vision: Supporting Women's Independence in poor Communities (Luxor) by qualifying them to be artisans and establishing new sales Channels.
Millennium Development Goal: Eradicate Extreme Poverty (1); Promote Gender Equality (3)
Accomplishments:
- I challenged the biased treatment I faced in my last year of studies by doubling my efforts to achieve high standing. I was also promoted as Idealistic Student on departure.
- I got my own independence by living alone in Luxor. I also received high recognition from my colleagues and students as one of the best teaching skilled professors.


Joyce Umbima

Organization: Emkay (East Africa) Limited (Kenya)
Role: Director and founder of Emkay (East Africa) Limited.
Vision:
To be an efficient , good mentor and coach for young women leaders in East Africa.
Millennium Development Goal: Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women (3)
Accomplishment: My proudest moment is when we launched a girl-child network to advocate for the rights of the girl-child.

Role: Director, Women's Leadership Center
Vision: To empower young women to serve as change coaches to assist, support, and educate other women toward their own self-reliance in their financial, personal, political, professional, physical and spiritual life arenas.
Millennium Development Goal: Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women (3)
Accomplishments:
- Earning my doctorate in four years including coursework and writing my dissertation while working a full time job and commuting 2+ hours a day.
- Keeping a happy marriage.


Julia Overton-Healy

Organization: Women's Initiative for Self Employment (USA)
Role: CEO
Vision: Transform Women Initiative into an international organization, moving from creating 5,000 jobs to 500,000.
Millennium Development Goal: Eradicate Extreme Poverty (1); Promote Gender Equality (3)
Accomplishments:
- Women's Initiative for Self-Employment builds the entrepreneurial capacity of women to overcome social and economic barriers and ultimately achieve self-sufficiency.
- Women's Initiative is in the process of expanding nationally. Julie Castro Abrams, as current CEO, has raised some of the necessary funds. She plans to use the funds to offer leadership courses in Chicago and New York.

Organization: US Fund for UNICEF (USA)
Role: Director, Major Gifts
Vision: To Establish an Entrepreneurial Fundraising Initiative.
Millennium Development Goal: Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger (1)
Accomplishments:
- Responsible for the most revenue raised that was used to save children's lives.
- I have traveled to over 20 countries in my life thus far and can converse in Spanish.


Lynda Haliburton

Organization: Cityteam International and Maranatha Christian Center (USA)
Role: Teacher
Vision: Mobilizing leaders to build and maintain a thriving community kitchen as a launch site for economic and social gain.
Millennium Development Goal: Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger (1)
Accomplishment: Producing four successful community fundraisers to finance youth programs in San Jose, CA and in Tijuana, Mexico.

Vision: To remodel GWLN into a sustainable organization ensuring the continued support to Gender Equality.

Accomplishments:
- Becoming a leader in my church community as a trained Stephen Leader, President of Women's Ministries for several years, liaison to CityTeam Ministries and lead for our Helping Hands program.
- Being nominated to be part of WLW program and having the opportunity to be part of this class to scale my impact on gender equality globally.

Accomplishments:
- I am proud of having produced excellent leaders while I was a librarian at the University of SD. I impacted many souls. I now marvel as I see some are CEO's of big Companies.
- FUNDZA is the only NGO that promotes lifelong reading in SD. On Feb 14 2012 the Ministry of Education Awarded FUNDZA a certificate in recognition of its valuable support to Education.

Role: Founding President
Vision: To establish sustainable, community based, family health centers with a focus on safe and healthy child births in rural remote and poor areas of Balochistan and Sindh provinces of Pakistan.
Millennium Development Goal: Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women (3)
Accomplishment: After ten years of separation, I and my family came back together, and I was able to establish 2000 girls schools in Balochistan.

Current title/Area of focus: Founding President
Vision: Empowering Children to Change the World

Accomplishments:
- Helping found and fund an orphanage for children in India.
- Starting my own 501(c)3 charity organization which encourages children to become active participants in improving their world. By involving children in causes that directly improve the lives of those less fortunate, children learn that they can make a difference even at a young age.

Stella Ikila

Organization: Living Goods (Uganda)
Role: Business Manager
Vision: To create a positive impact in terms of improved health and incomes to another community in Uganda.
Millennium Development Goal: Combat Malaria and other Diseases (6)
Accomplishments:
- Started as a telesales executive, a newly created position. I excelled in this position and grew revenue for DHL by over 100% in the territory I was assigned. This eventually earned me a promotion to the position of sales and marketing executive.
- I have managed to setup LIVINGGOODS Uganda operations successfully, so far we have 5 branches and a team of 13 whom I recruited, trained, and manage successfully.


Susan-Risal

Role: Program Manager
Vision: To build the capacity of the conflict affected community, especially the victims (women and youths) of conflicts so that they can be empowered enough to lead the peace initiative actions by themselves in the long run.
Millennium Development Goal: Achieve Universal Education (2);  Promote Gender Equality and Empower Women (3)
Accomplishments:
- Seeing, or hearing about, women and youths that I have worked with in the past demonstrating transformational behavior in their feeling and understanding (changing from anger and revenge to forgiveness).
- I feel very delighted when I see conflict affected women and youths working together in a team for social change.
