Checklist : MBA Graduation

Congratulations on your approaching graduation! Since SCU students follow many different timelines in completing their MBA degrees, students must notify the Graduate Business Programs Office of their intent to graduate. In order to earn your degree, you must complete the first two petition processes outlined below by the published deadlines. Capstone Petition Process (required)

Capstone (MGMT 619) is one of the final steps in completing SCU’s MBA degree. Since MGMT 619 has unique prerequisites, students must submit an online Capstone Petition in order to enroll. Capstone eligibility will be verified by the GBP Office prior to registration.

In order to enroll in Capstone, students must meet ALL of the following requirements:

• Have completed at least 58 units towards SCU’s MBA degree
• Have completed all waivable and non-waivable required courses*
• Plan to graduate within the next two quarters
• Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher

Capstone Petition deadlines will be as follows:

FALL Quarter, petitions will be due July 15
WINTER Quarter, petitions will be due September 15
SPRING Quarter, petitions will be due January 15
Please note: MGMT 619 and IDIS 705 are not offered during Summer Quarter.

Graduation Petition Process (required)

In order to graduate, all MBA students must complete and submit an online Petition to Graduate. The information you provide in your petition is used to order and mail your diploma, and list your name in the SCU Commencement Book.  If this date changes, students must re-submit an amended petition.  Students failing to do so could be omitted from the commencement book and ceremony.

To be eligible to graduate, Graduate Business students must:

• Complete all required coursework specific to the year in which they began the program
• Complete the required number of units specific to the year in which they began the program
• Complete the program with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Not have any I or N grades listed on their transcripts

Submit a Petition to Graduate:
SEPTEMBER 2012 graduation (Summer Quarter): May 15 
(If you would like to "walk" in the June Commencement Ceremony, and you will be completing your degree requirements in the Summer quarter, you must submit your petition by March 15th)
DECEMBER 2012 graduation (Fall Quarter): August 15
MARCH 2013 graduation (Winter Quarter): December 15

Concentration Petition Process (optional)

In order for a concentration(s) to be listed on your transcript, you must complete the Concentration Section in the Graduation Petition.

Checklist : MSIS Graduation

Capstone Petition Process:

Capstone is one of the final steps in completing your MSIS degree requirements.  To participate in this two-part course, student(s) must meet with the MSIS faculty director and determine an appropriate project.  Once a project has been determined and approved, the faculty director will assign a Capstone faculty advisor to the student(s).

Students working on the Capstone project must submit a Capstone Petition form with the approved topic, list of group members (if any), and signatures of the MSIS faculty director and advisor to the Graduate Business Programs Office in order to be administratively enrolled in the course.  Students will receive an e-mail confirmation that their form has been received, and enrollment is typically processed the week prior to the quarterly registration period. 

Upon completion of the MSIS Capstone project, student participants must submit the MSIS Completion of Capstone Project form with the appropriate faculty signatures and the assigned grade to the Graduate Business Programs Office.  The grade will be submitted to the Office of the Registrar for posting for both Capstone I and Capstone II courses.
