International Students Seminar: Optimizing Your Job Search
Friday, 1/9/ 2:00-3:00p.m.
Looking for a job is not easy for anyone, but for international students there are additional hurdles to jump. We want to equip international students with support and opportunities to build their employability skills and market themselves during the U.S. job hunting process. Light refreshments will be provided.
For students who have completed at least one quarter and nince units.
No matter where you are in your career, any transition begins with self-assessment and the formation of a plan. Using the CareerLeader self-assessment, this workshop gives participants the opportunity to discover or confirm their unique career interests, motivators, and abilities, and to begin the first steps towards creating a career action plan. If you don’t know where to begin or are seeking to clarify your career interests, this session is for you. Upon registration you will be sent a link with login information for taking the online self-assessment tool, CareerLeader, and a pre-work document. Plan on spending one-hour to do the pre-work.
The art of interviewing is one of the most stressful and challenging parts of the job search, thus the more you can prepare and practice, the better you become at telling your story effectively. Each mock interview will be 30 minutes and give students the chance to practice interviewing and receive feedback. The mock interview will focused on behavioral questions and is not industry specific. Bring a copy of a job description you are interested in to use in the session.
