  •  Food & Food Waste Workshop

    Join us on May 21st to share and receive ideas on how to cook different seasonal vegetables, and what to do with the scraps when you're through!

    The Food & Agribusiness Institute, SCUs Bronco Urban Garden (BUG) and SCU's sustainability interns will be talking about different ways to prepare healthy and delicious vegetables. Also, Lindsey Cromwell Kalkbrenner, Master Composter, will be giving a short presentation on how to use worms to compost food waste.

    In addition to the talks, there will be a Vegetable Dish Competition. Back by popular demand, attendants will prepare and share their favorite vegetable recipes. The winner may just receive a special prize!

  •  Wine & SCU Winemaking Families: Sharing the Fruits of Their Labors

    The real roots of California wine-making are based at Santa Clara University, in which Santa Clara's extensive alumni list of great wine-making families is very impressive. In this program, meet Rob and Diana Jensen, prominent SCU alumni winemakers (Bronco Winery) and founders of Testarossa Winery. They will present their experiences in the wine industry - current and historical. Tastings and evaluation of their wines will be incorporated in the session, led by a certified sommelier. 

    Program Objectives:

    • Discuss the history of wine and its impact on today's wine culture.
    • Learn the fine elements of wines and wine-tasting and contrast various wine characteristics through wine-tasting exercises.
    • Meet the Jensens and learn about their wines and their experiences in the wine industry.

  •  Blessing of The Forge

    Blessing of The Forge

  •  Field Experience to Ocean Mist Farms

    On May 8, 2010, FAI hosted a field experience to Ocean Mist Farms for undergraduate and graduate students. Joe Pezzini, COO of Ocean Mist and MBA alumni ’83, and Tim Driscoll, General Manager of Valley Pride, hosted our visit.

    The visit included a tour of Ocean Mist’s spinach and romaine hearts farms, as well as the refrigerated warehouse and distribution facility.
