Positioning Yourself For Success: Creating a Powerful Resume

Whether you are looking for a job, considering changing jobs, or networking for future opportunities, you need to have a resume that showcases your accomplishments and presents your skills in ways that speak to your audience. Resumes are part of your communication strategy and key sales tools that imply what you can do for a potential employer in the future. In today's changing and challenging economy, with strong competitiveness in the job market, you need to know about yourself and the best ways to develop a resume that reflects the talented person you are.

In this half-day program, you learn how:

  • Determine your professional objective
  • Create a summary/qualifications statement
  • Present your experience in ways that shout, "Accomplishment!"
  • Format your information in a powerful, clear, and easy-to-read style

Faculty

Kathy Potter, M.S.ED., NBCCC, is Director of the Santa Clara University Career Center. Potter has served as a consultant for leading outplacement organizations and provided career development expertise in leadership and counseling roles, as well as communications and marketing experience in academia, industry, non-profit organizations, government, and private practice for over 18 years. As a Nationally Certified Career Counselor, with Master's degrees in Counselor Education, Human Resource Management, and English, she has skills in self-assessment, job search strategy, career decision-making, program development, training, and writing. She is passionate in her desire to help people create meaningful lives.

Cancellation policy and refunds:

Cancellations made more than one week prior to a program will incur a $25 processing fee. For cancellations that occur less than one week prior to a program, no refund will be given. If a participant is a no-show for a program, no refund will be given. A full refund will be given in the event the program is canceled.

Substitutions:


Participant substitutions are allowed for all programs. The substitute information must be sent by email - scuedc@scu.edu or call 408-554-4521 with the substitute information: name, job title, email address, and phone number no later than 4 p.m. the day before the program begins. If you are unable to attend and cannot send a substitute, we offer a one time credit to attend another half day program.
