CIE Speaker Series & SCEO Elevator Pitch Competition

On a quarterly basis, the CIE hosts the CIE Speaker Series- informative, entertaining events that feature a dynamic, leading entrepreneur or leader in innovation sharing experiences and advice with the SCU community, generating awareness of the role played by and importance of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

The Fall CIE Speaker Series is scheduled during Global Entrepreneurship Week.  The CIE is partnering with the Undergraduate Santa Clara Entrepreneurs Organization (SCEO) to host their Annual SCEO Elevator Pitch Competition Tuesday, November 17, program begins at 7 pm, Recital Hall, Music & Dance Building.  Check in is from 6 pm-7 pm, complimentary refreshments will be served.

Select undergraduate students will have the opportunity to pitch their ideas, but only 90 seconds, before a panel of judges.  The winning idea is worth $250, with a separate $100 Sustainability prize.

Global Entrepreneurship Week Brown Bag Seminars & Other Events

Join the CIE as we bring Global Entrepreneurship Week to Santa Clara University with informative daily brown bag lunch seminars featuring different daily content to the campus community--all students, faculty, staff and members of the Silicon Valley business community are welcome to attend this free event.  Bring your own lunch or stop by the Cadence Cafe to pick up your lunch and we'll provide something sweet for dessert.

The CIE Global Entrepreneurship Week Brown Bag Seminars will be held in the Forbes Family Conference Center, Lucas Hall 126 from Noon-1 pm.  

Conferences, Seminars & Competitions
  • Friday, November 20: Join the Center for Science, Technology, and Society at the Fall Conference Change That Counts:  Building Sustainable Social Business (9 am-5 pm conference, Benson Memorial Center)
  • Friday, November 20:  Join the Graduate Real Estate Network at their seminar Unlocking Illiquid Real Estate Assets with author Elena Panaritis at this Social Entrepreneurship seminar in the Leavey School of Business, 5:30 pm-7:30 pm.
  • Sunday, November 22:  Internal Venture Capital Investment Competition (VCIC), coordinated by the graduate organization Entrepreneurs Connection.  Watch as graduate students compete to determine the Santa Clara team to compete in the Silicon Valley leg of the National VCIC in 2010.  This day-long competition will follow the same rigorous standards and schedule of the regional competition and will be held in the Forbes Family Conference Center, Lucas Hall.

2008 Global Entrepreneurship Week Photos

Global Entrepreneurship Week is an international initiative featuring innovation- and entrepreneurship-themed events taking place in over 70 countries.  The mission is to:
  • Inspire: Introduce the notion of enterprising behavior to as many people under the age of 30 who otherwise might not have considered entrepreneurship as a path in life.
  • Connect: Connect young people across national boundaries in a global effort to find new ideas at the intersection of cultures and disciplines.
  • Inform: Demonstrate that the drive to nuture enterprising talent needs business, education, government, voluntary organizations and the media to work together.
  • Mentor: Enlist active and inspirational entrepreneurs around the world to coach and mentor the next generation of enterprise talent as they pursue their entrepreneurial dreams.

CIE Speaker Series

On a quarterly basis, the CIE hosts the CIE Speaker Series- informative, entertaining events that feature a dynamic, leading entrepreneur or leader in innovation sharing experiences and advice with the SCU community, generating awareness of the role played by and importance of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Target Audience
The audience for the CIE Speaker Series includes SCU students and faculty as well as invited guests from the Silicon Valley business community and the CIE Advisory Board.

Format
The CIE Speaker Series provides attendees a unique opportunity to hear a first-hand account of stories in start-ups and breakthroughs in innovation and technology including challenges and lessons learned.  Presenters typically provide a 45 minute presentation followed by an informative 15 minute Question & Answer session.
