Undergraduate Internships

The CIE offers those enrolled in the Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Program the opportunity to apply new entrepreneurial skills in emerging Silicon Valley startups.  A variety of paid and unpaid internships are available throughout the year.

In addition, undergraduate students enrolled in the BUSN 145 Entrepreneurship Practicum course have the opportunity to intern for a quarter at both emerging and established startups.  This 2-unit course is available in Fall, Winter and Spring Quarters.  Undergraduate students pursuing a Minor in Entrepreneurship will also have an opportunity for a startup internship through MGMT 198E  Internship in Entrepreneurship.  For more information, please contact ljenkins@scu.edu.

Portola Pharmaceuticals Inc is looking for a motivated MBA intern to join our business development team for the summer of 2012.  Portola is developing multiple therapeutics in the areas of cardiovascular disease, inflammation and oncology and is looking for an intern who can help our licensing efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Support Business Development activities including in-licensing, out-licensing, development planning and commercial forecasts / valuations as needed
  • Utilize Portola resources (journals, external databases, reports, access to scientific staff) and external resources (consultants, interviews with academic scientific leaders) to refine Portola?s in-licensing opportunity pipeline
  • Create financial and valuation analysis based on expected development timing, cost, risk, and post launch P&L
  • Develop and conduct decision analysis for options around in-licensing opportunities vs. internal pipeline investment
  • Research, organize and write justifications for final recommendations
  • Present findings to senior management


---Desired Skills/Knowledge:---
  Experience

  • Experience in product development, marketing, finance or business development within, or consulting for, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or medical device companies
  • A detailed understanding of the drug-development process
  • Experience developing and analyzing product based financial models
  • Strong experience with MS Excel
