Illuminate Ventures (

Are you interested in getting a front seat in the venture and startup space?  Illuminate Ventures is a San Francisco Bay Area based venture capital firm with a focus on early-stage high-tech investing in the cloud computing category.  From there on Illuminate Ventures is different - we don't rely on "pattern recognition" or following the herd.  We seek new and innovative business ideas led by committed, talented and diverse teams, particularly those that have B2B offerings or target the SMB market.  We also recognize that great investment opportunities come in a variety of packages - sometimes looking a bit different from the norm.  And right now, we are seeking 1-2 creative, self-motivated student interns with prior work experience to join us.
Intern Role

Overall student interns will be invited to take on self-managed projects that range from conducting competitive and market assessments of new potential investments to implementing a new firm-wide deal-flow management process.  Projects will be designed to suite the skills/availability of the students so as not to impact other academic commitments.  Interns will have weekly one-on-one planning calls with one of Illuminate’s key team members, the opportunity to present the results of their work to the full Illuminate team as well as Illuminate’s Business Advisory Council (
) and may, over time, get involved in broader new investment due diligence activities, where appropriate.  Interns will be invited to attend Illuminate’s Advisory Council meetings (held 3X/year) and will have the opportunity to meet Illuminate’s portfolio teams from time to time.
Best Fit

The ideal candidates will:

  • Possess a strong work ethic
  • Be diligent, sincere, active and enthused about the project
  • Have previous work experience – prior competitive, product or market assessments a plus
  • Have working knowledge of current online collaboration tools, productivity tools, and some database skills
  • Be able to work well remotely
  • Have good written and verbal skills
  • Love learning and have the ability to pick up new ideas quickly
  • Understand the importance of confidentiality regarding access to Illuminate’s and start-ups’ materials

  • Highly flexible; 5-10 hours/week
  • 6-12 month commitment
