Spring CIE Speaker Series Welcomes Srivats Sampath
Srivats Sampath is a serial entrepreneur with over twenty years of management, investment and technical experience. An experienced leader, he has run large corporations and organizations, as well as conceiving, funding and building successful start-up companies.
He previously served as founder, president and CEO of McAfee.com (NASDAQ: MCAF). He built the company into one of the largest and most successful subscription-based, SaaS security services for consumers and small-to-medium sized businesses. Srivats orchestrated a successful IPO in December 1999, followed by the successful merger with Network Associates (NYSE: NET) in October 2002, which has now become McAfee Inc. (NYSE: MFE). Prior to McAfee, Srivats was the vice president of product marketing at Netscape Communications (NASDAQ:NSCP), and was Founder, President and CEO of Discussions Corporations, a leading developer of email-based groupware solutions. He also served in executive-level capacities for Central Point Software and as the co-founder and chief architect of Intel's LAN Enhancement Operations. He started his professional career by co-founding Mecon (NASDAQ:MECN), a healthcare software company, which was subsequently acquired by GE (NYSE:GE). Most recently, Srivats was the co-founder, president & CEO of Mercora, a social music company.
Srivats is also an active angel investor and director, and currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Voltage Security and director of Silver Tail Systems. His past and current investments and directorships include, Web Trends (NASDAQ:WEBT), Source Next (TSE:4344), Cadabra (Acquired by Goto.com), Covalent, Tripwire, Determina (Acquired by NASDAQ:VMW), and Real Image, an Indian digital movie company. His overall entrepreneur/investor track record to-date includes 4 IPOs, 2 acquisitions and 3 liquidations, accounting for a combined enterprise value of approximately $3.5 Billion.
Srivats also holds a number of patents (9 issued and 3 pending) in areas of information security, the delivery of software-as-a-service, peer-to-peer high-definition streaming and contextual Internet advertising. He received his Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from Madras University, India. He has delivered keynote addresses at world-leading financial forums and industry events such as COMDEX and Networld+Interop, and has appeared as a regular guest on major television networks such as CNN, CNBC, CNN|fn and Bloomberg.
Srivats is currently working on IdeaToaster, a technology incubator for ideas and concepts evolved directly from his 20+ years as an entrepreneur, operating executive and investor. He is also using his sabbatical to research "the cognitive web" - the understanding of human cognition and vision in improving the efficiency of web search, advertising, and applications.
