Congratulations to the twenty-four emerging entrepreneurs who completed the 2011 California Program for Entrepreneurship Program offered by the Leavey School of Business at Santa Clara University. This program, administered by the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, was provided to the cohort at no expense through a generous gift from Joseph and Linda Bronson, Paul and Antje Newhagen and the Leavey School of Business.
The six-month program featured four on-site weekends and a 7-day intensive workshop week of courses, online exercises, speaker presentations, industry panels, and group work, culminating in a $5,000 business plan competition on the final day. Each of the entrepreneurs presented his/her plan before a distinguished panel of Silicon Valley leaders, venture capitalists and investors. As a bonus, the CIE also awarded $1,000 to sector winners. The competition results are as follows:
$5,000 Grand Prize Winner
Gargi Nalawade, SePalz-Social Intelligence for You

$1,000 Internet/Mobile Apps Sector Winner-Natasha Wallace, Red Seraphim

$1,000 Technology Sector Winner-TIE
Shawn Lange, L2F Automation

David Rose, Kamuro Bioscience

$1,000 Consumer Products Sector Winner - Barbara Schroder, Woof! Dog Water

$1,000 Service Sector Winner - Herbert T. "Teddy" Patty, Trademark Island

After an intense last day of coaching and competition, the group celebrated with family, friends, faculty, mentors, judges, and members of the 2010 CAPE Cohort at a certificate ceremony and dinner reception at the historic Adobe Lodge. Leavey School of Business Dean Drew Starbird and Executive Director of Entrepreneurship Programs Dan Aguiar shared reflections and the CIE was pleased to recognize CAPE sponsors Joseph and Linda Bronson.
We look forward to watching these ventures join with the 2010 CAPE Cohort ventures to establish roots here in California and grow to fulfill the mission of CAPE: to provide the educational tools to emerging entrepreneurs to help them develop businesses that will contribute to the growth and well being of the community and the California economy.
Congratulations, best wishes for success, and welcome to the Santa Clara University family!
