Carol Christopher, PhD

Dr. Carol Christopher has more than 20 years of experience in the biopharma industry, including eight years at ALZA Corporation and 10 years as an initial team member of three companies.  At AeroGen, she was instrumental in securing the company's initial pharmadceutical partnerships and venture capital financing.  As a co-founder, CFO, and Vice President of Business Development of Alexza Pharmaceuticals, Carol secured three rounds of venture capital investment totaling more than $50M and led the business development activities for the company.  Most recently, Carol was on the initial team at NuMedii, Inc., a translational medicine company focused on reporposing drugs based on big data predictive technology.  At ALZA Corporation, Carol was Director of CNS Discovery; she holds numerous U.S. and international patents for her work on novel pharmacokinetics of CNS drugs, which led to the development and commercialization of a drug that has generated more than $1B/year in revenue over the last decade.

Carol currently works with Georgetown University Medical Center, leading several entrepreneurial ventures for the university.  She is also an Entrepreneur-In-Residence at Stanford University's StartX accelerator and a pharmaceutical industry mentor for the National Science Foundation's Innovation Corp program, assisting academic teams in translating new technologies from the lab into viable companies.  She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a PhD in Intercultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary.  She has taught entrepreneurship in India, China, Malaysia, and the Philippines and published in numerous peer-reviewed journals on international entrepreneurship.
