Athletic Facilities

The east side of the university's campus consists of four prominent athletic facilities: the Leavey Center, Buck Shaw Stadium, the Degheri Tennis Center and the new Stephen Schott Baseball Stadium.

The Leavey Center is named after the late founder of Farmers Insurance, Thomas E. Leavey, who graduated from Santa Clara in 1922. It is the home of the Broncos' men's and women's basketball and women's volleyball teams. In April 2000 the Leavey Center underwent a major facelift. A new roof was the centerpiece of the first phase of a renovation project. Additionally, the first phase replaced the floor and lower bleachers of the basketball court, scoreboard, sound system, lighting, restrooms, entrances and add a two-story glass wall around the entire center. The second phase begun a year later, and built new athletic department offices, a weight room and expanded the upper-level seating. A third phase to complete the arena is currently being fundraised. Once completed, the building will be transformed into one of the finest sports venues of its size on the West Coast.

Named after former Santa Clara football coach, Lawrence T. "Buck" Shaw, Buck Shaw Stadium has served as a showcase for some of Santa Clara University's proudest athletic achievements since the facility opened in 1962. Besides serving as the home for the Bronco soccer team, the 6,800-seat facility also houses Santa Clara baseball. Through the years, the spirit of Buck Shaw has been kept alive by the many great athletes who have competed on the stadium's turf over the past 38 years. The facility hosted the 1996 NCAA Women's Soccer Championship and served as the practice site for the Brazilian National Team during the 1994 World Cup.

A new era in Bronco tennis debuted in 1999 with the introduction of the Degheri Tennis Center. It is the home of both the men's and women's programs while it also serves recreational opportunities for the community. The facility includes nine championship lighted courts and the east side of the center is highlighted by the Player's Circle, a landscaped knoll that provides hillside seating for matches, as well as space for team meetings and hospitality receptions. In all, it's a facility that reflects the energy and intimacy of a collegiate environment.

Stephen Schott Stadium opened in April, 2005 and is one of the finest college baseball facilities on the West Coast.  The $8.6 million project was kicked off in January, 2004 with a $4 million pledge from former SCU baseball player and former owner of the Oakland Athletics, Stephen Schott.  The 1,500-seat stadium houses the entire Santa Clara baseball program, including its training, practice and equipment facilities. Also equipped with a 600 square-foot press box and VIP suite.  Designed with player development in mind, Schott Stadium provides the Santa Clara baseball staff and players with every possible tool for success.
