What principles have guided and should guide Catholics as they participate in public life today? On this 50th anniversary of Vatican II, these are pressing questions Catholics are considering. It is easy enough to recall and describe discrete momentary controversies regarding, for example, Catholic politicians and church leaders. But this presentation seeks to survey the broader landscape to discern the lasting features of Catholic participation in secular political life and engagement in the public over the last half-century.
