First Co-ed to Receive
Honorary Degree
At
this year's undergraduate commencement, the University will award an honorary
degree to Mary Somers Edmunds '62, representative of the
pioneering women in undergraduate education at Santa Clara. In this, the
50th anniversary year of women in undergraduate education, we
commemorate the special group who paved the way for women to become a vibrant
and integral part of the Santa Clara community. View

Graduate Commencement: Martha J. Kanter
The
woman President Obama is counting on to help educate America’s workforce
of the next decade, Martha J. Kanter, the under secretary of education for
the U.S. Department of Education, will address SCU’s graduate students at

Commencement: Steve Wozniak
Steve
Wozniak, the iconic co-founder of Apple Computer, current chief scientist
at Fusion-io, and one of the original architects of the personal-computing
industry, will be the commencement speaker for SCU's undergraduate class
of 2012 on Saturday, June 16.

Cultural Context Enriches Theology
Four
dozen graduates received their degrees from the Jesuit School of Theology
on May 19. Addressing the class was a leading African Jesuit, Agbonkhianmeghe
E. Orobator, S.J., who told the 2012 graduates that "respecting the cultural
context in which believers worship adds to the richness of Catholic theological
