Tom Wong ’08, who won the Orella Prize the year he graduated, just earned a Ph.D. in physics from UCSD. He has accepted a post-doc in Latvia to work with a computational scientist. He commented that even though his Ph.D. was from a physics dept, his advisor was basically a mathematician and he uses (of all things) Fortran95 to write a lot of his software! So all three majors at SCU (Math, Computer Science, and Physics) have served him well. , and the year he graduated (2008).
Peter Schmidt ’08 married Emily Brown, Loyola Marymount graduate, on Sept. 7, 2013, at the Plantation Farm Camp in Sonoma County. They live in Sausalito.
Liam Satre-Meloy ’08 is an executive producer of the documentary Red Army, which was released in 2014. The film is about the Soviet Union’s famous Red Army hockey team. Read more about the film in Sports Illustrated. While at Santa Clara, Satre-Meloy worked on the award-winning documentary A Christmas in Tent City—written, produced, and directed by Assistant Professor of Communication Mike Whalen ’89—about Francisco Jimenez.
This year, May 2014, Rochelle Rock ’08 graduated from medical school and will be entering a residency at the University of Connecticut in Emergency Medicine.
In 2013, Ana Paz-Rangel '08 began her graduate studies at Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service. She is currently pursuing an M.A. in Latin American Studies.
Brent Haase ’08 and Hillary (Boller) Haase ’06 are the proud parents of future Bronco Louis William Haase, born Aug. 23, 2014 at 4:53 PM. 6 lb., 0.9 oz., 18 1/4 in. Louis joins big brother Ollie, a German Shepherd, at home in Greenwood Village, Colo.
Cristina Sanidad '08 and Emmanuel Gallardo were married in Phoenix, Ariz. on May 24, 2014.
Coming from Santa Clara’s School of Engineering, where “Engineering with a Mission” is the credo, Agustin Fonts ’08 and Ryan Leary ’08 feel right at home putting their ethics, values, and talents to work in their careers. Both are employed by a company whose software is transforming the way the world approaches household energy conservation. At Opower, Fonts is the international product manager and Leary is engineering manager, accountable for promoting good engineering practices and managing software release and testing by working with engineering services and QA release management for the company’s suite of products focused on energy efficiency, customer engagement, demand response, and thermostat management.
Rob Bevegni ’04 married Stephanie Howell ’08 on Sept. 6, 2014, in Truckee, California. They live in San Francisco.
Brody Angley ’08 signed a two-year deal with Maccabi Haifa Basketball, making his debut in Israel Winner League. The 28-year-old point guard has recently won four championships in the last four seasons, on four different teams in Europe and Latin America. He brings to his new team the leadership, toughness, and high IQ that allowed him to win the rims in Switzerland LNA, Mexico Liga Nacional de Baloncesto, League of FIBA Americas, and Mexico LNBP.
Mark Almassy ’08 and Tera (Linsley) Almassy ’08 welcomed their second son, Henry Theodore, on Feb. 12. He joins big brother Kent (18 months). The Almassy family resides in Pleasantville, New York.
