Michael C. Wehr '85 was promoted to the rank of major general by the the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at a ceremony in January. Last September, Wehr received his second star at his alma mater, where his career began in the ROTC program.
"It feels great to come back to the place and people who shaped me at an early age for the career that led to this day," he said. His parents, Art and Margaret Wehr, had the honor of participating in the ceremony, while his Santa Clara sweetheart, Deborah Kalisz Wehr ’84, stood by his side.
Responding humbly, Wehr said, "It takes a lot of little things to make something big happen. It's a real honor to celebrate this moment here at Santa Clara. It is a gift to get to lead. It's about living, learning, loving, and leaving a legacy—carrying a torch, but thanking those who handed it to me and those who will receive it. "Wehr also recognized the incredible importance of mentoring, specifically thanking his Santa Clara ROTC professor of military science, Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Robert E. Camors.
Chuck Miller ’85, J.D. ’88 is business development nanager for American Pacific Mortgage in Walnut Creek. He is also the JV basketball coach at De La Salle High School in Concord. Chuck is currently serving on the SCU National Alumni Board as well as on the committee for the Class of '85 Grand Reunion coming up this fall. He is encouraging all his classmates to come to the reunion and looks forward to seeing them all there. Chuck is proud of his daughter, Samantha, who is attending George Washington University and his son, Charlie, who is a freshman at De La Salle High School. Chuck lives in Pleasant Hill.
Bart Lally ’85 and wife Amanda welcomed their first child, Francis Joseph Lally, on July 27, 2014. The family lives in San Francisco.
Priscilla Kisling '79, MBA '85 writes, "Moved to Portland, Ore. area, in Jan. 2014, and started working for Business Valuation Resources, LLC, in Feb. 2014 as CFO. Business Valuation Resources is a niche publisher of business valuation guides, books and on-line resources for the professional business appraiser. This big change allows me to be in the same area as my daughter, Kristina, who graduated from University of Portland in May 2013 and is working in the Portland area."
Tim Jeffries ’85 served as the senior deputy of the Colorado Flood Recovery Task Force for Governor John Hickenlooper (D) of Colorado in fall 2013. Tim was reappointed to the Arizona Commerce Authority by House Speaker Andy Tobin (R) in summer 2014. And Tim also serves on the Crime and Child Safety Subcommittee of the Transition Committee for Governor-Elect Doug Ducey (R) of Arizona.
Elissa Fink '85 was recognized with an honorable mention from PR World as CMO of the year for 2013. Fink is chief marketing officer at Tableau Software, a company making databases and spreadsheets understandable to ordinary people. With 20+ years helping companies improve their marketing operations through applied data analysis, Fink has held executive positions in marketing, business strategy, product management, and product development. Prior to Tableau, she was EVP Marketing at IXI Corporation, now owned by Equifax. She has also served in executive positions at Tele Atlas (acquired by TomTom), TopTier Software (acquired by SAP), and Nielsen/Claritas. Fink also sold national advertising for the Wall Street Journal. She’s a frequent speaker and has spoken at conferences including the DMA, NCDM, PSAMA and others. In 2013, Elissa joined the Board of the Washington Technology Industry Association (WTIA).
