Watenpaugh, Norma
Norma Watenpaugh MBA '82 made the Silicon Valley Business Journal’s 2015 Women of Influence annual list. This list comprises “100 women rocking Silicon Valley business” who have made a big impact across all professions. An expert in strategic alliances, Watenpaugh has helped companies including SAP, Adobe Systems Inc., and Xerox Corporation build better and stronger business relationships. She believes firmly that managing successful collaborations is both an art and a discipline; as such, she founded Phoenix Consulting Group in 2002 to teach those skills. She is the company's CEO.

Sorbara, Massimo

Massimo Sorbara M.S. '82 is senior director of Technical Standards at Ikanos Communications in Red Bank, NJ. He is currently involved in the development of and DSL standards in the ITU-T and serves as vice chair in the Metallic Transmission Group in the Broadband Forum responsible for development of the DSL test specifications. Massimo has been involved in DSL Standards Development since 1990, seeing the evolutions of the HDSL, ADSL, and VDSL standards. He has served as the chair of ATIS Committee NIPP-NAI (formerly T1E1.4) 2000-2008 and as vice chair 1994-1999, and 2008-present; chair of the Spectral Compatibility Sub-Committee in NRIC-V (an advisory group to the FCC); and the CPE Working Group in FS-VDSL Committee defining CPE technical specifications in support of VDSL-based services. From 1986 through 1996, Mr. Sorbara held positions at AT&T Bell Labs / AT&T Paradyne, where he was primarily responsible for DSL systems engineering and product definition.

Murnane, Larry

Larry Murnane ’82 just published the book Limitless: How to Be, Have, Do, and Accomplish Anything, a short book on living a purposeful life of accomplishment and fulfillment. It's available online at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and iBooks. Fifty percent of proceeds go to charities benefiting underprivileged children. Larry lives in Coronado, California.

Meissner, Chris
Chris Meissner '82 was presented with the 2015 Business & Community Leader of Year Award by CSU Channel Islands for his contributions toward advancements in business, technology, educational collaboration, and the local economy. Meissner is founder and president of Meissner Filtration Products Inc. Established in 1989 and located in Camarillo, his company develops, manufactures, supplies, and services advanced microfiltration and single-use systems worldwide. Meissner also serves on several boards: Economic Development Collaborative/Ventura County, St. John’s Seminary, and the CSU Channel Islands Foundation.

Lion, Paul "Chip"

Paul "Chip" Lion J.D. '82 is a partner at the firm Morrison and Foerster, and in September he became chair of the American Bar Association's Business Law Section. The Business Law Section, a renowned institution with over 50,000 members and 50 substantive law committees, provides thought leadership on corporate law issues and is considered to be the premier community for business law professionals.

In this role, Chip will continue to advance the Section’s key strategic objectives, focus on enhancing member benefits, including the development and distribution of substantive content, and coordinate its primary meetings.
Chip commented:  “I’m delighted and honored to take on this role.  I look forward to working with the leaders of our Section, and superb staff, to furthering the development and improvement of business law, and continuing to provide valuable member services.”   
Chip has been actively involved with the Business Law Section for most of his professional career, having served most recently as chair-elect, responsible for managing the implementation of the Section’s business plan, and before that as vice-chair and secretary of the Section. He has served as editor-in-chief of The Business Lawyer, the highly regarded journal of the Section, and as co-editor-in-chief of Business Law Today, the Section's online monthly magazine. He is the past chair of the Venture Capital & Private Equity Committee of the Section.
Chip’s practice focuses on advising pooled investment fund sponsors and institutional investors in connection with the formation of venture capital funds, leveraged buyout funds, real estate opportunity, and other private equity funds. He also has extensive experience in advising emerging growth companies at every stage of development and, venture capitalists who invest in them, including, matters relating to the initial public offering of securities mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, auction transactions, tender offers, leveraged buy-outs, and cross-border transactions.

Hogan, Kathryn (Kane)

Kathryn Kane '82, J.D. '86 writes, "This fall, I will retire as a deputy county counsel, Office of County Counsel, County of Santa Clara. I have been a hearing, trial, and appellate counsel in the Child Dependency Unit for more than 25 years. I will forever be grateful for this amazing career opportunity."

Ashby, Steven

Dr. Steven Ashby ’82 has been appointed as the laboratory director for Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, Washington. PNNL is managed by Battelle for the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Science. It has an annual budget of $1B and employs 4,300 staff who perform research in fundamental science, energy, environment, and national security.
