Avery Lu ’95 was one of 23 distinguished speakers at the IoT (Internet of Things) Summit, Santa Clara Convention Center, in March. He presented "The State of Wearable Tech in Health and Fitness—Where Do We Go From Here?" Lu is the co-founder and CMO of Palo Alto Scientific. His team is currently working on a product called profileMyRun, an ultrathin, pressure-sensing insole that syncs with a smartphone through a low-power bluetooth clip. The profileMyRun system provides runners with real-time feedback on their running technique, resulting in less pain and injury, and improving running economy to help them win races. Rebecca Jacoby MBA ’95, CIO and senior VP of Cisco, has been elected to McGraw Hill Financial's board of directors. Jacoby, 53, advances the business through the use of Cisco technology. Under her leadership as CIO since 2006, Ms. Jacoby has made the IT organization a strategic business partner, producing significant business value for Cisco in the form of financial performance, customer satisfaction and loyalty, market share, and productivity.
Ignacio J. Guerrero ’95 was appointed director of the Santa Clara County Department of Child Support Services by the County Board of Supervisors in San Jose, Calif.
Rita Grogan M.A. '95 joined West Hills Community College District as the district’s associate vice chancellor of enrollment management and institutional effectiveness. She is currently earning an education doctorate through Brandman University.
Jarrod Gerhardt ’95 has been hired as senior vice president and director of marketing for Bank of Marin, which is headquartered in Novato. Gerhardt, of Walnut Creek, has 17 years of experience in the financial services industry. He previously acted as West Coast marketing director for Boston Private Bank. He has also held marketing positions at Charter Private Bank and Washington Mutual in Seattle, Washington. Gerhardt holds a bachelor's degree from Santa Clara University and a master's in business administration from Boston University.
Eric Geffon ’95 was appointed by Gov. Jerry Brown ’59 to Santa Clara County's bench. Geffon, 44, has headed his own law firm—Geffon and Isger—for the past 13 years, previously working as a Santa Clara County deputy public defender. A Los Altos resident, Geffon has a law degree from Santa Clara University.
Justin Beck '95 and his wife Betty welcomed their second child, Brewer, into their family at Thanksgiving in 2014. He joins big brother Evan on the team. Justin is currently the Chief of Staff for the Pabst Brewing Company based in Los Angeles.
Brian Babka, M.D. ’95 is a sports medicine physician with Northwestern Medicine in the western suburbs of Chicago. He completed a rotation 12/1/14 to 12/16/14 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs acting as a member of the medical staff serving the resident athletes.
Kristi Nevarez ’91, J.D. ’96 has been named a Partner at Fragomen Worldwide, which is recognized as the world's leading global corporate immigration services provider. For over 17 years, she has advised clients in matters of corporate business immigration. She has also served as the Congressional Assistant and Immigration Policy Advisor to Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), Ranking Member of the House Immigration Subcommittee.

Steve Nash '96 has retired from professional basketball after 18 years. The former Los Angeles Lakers point guard had led the Santa Clara Broncos to 3 NCAA tournament appearances in his four seasons there. The elusive, crafty guard was able to win the West Coast Conference player of the year award twice and rewrote the history books as the school’s all time leader in assists. Nash also played for the Phoenix Suns and was voted as the 9th greatest NBA point guard of all time and was able to shoot 50% from the field, 40% from 3 point land and 90% from the free throw line in 4 different seasons.
Eric Monsef ’90, M.S. ’96 led the group responsible for bringing to market HP Sprout, which was awarded Best Desktop PC at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show, by PC Mag. The HP Sprout is an immersive workstation that combines a fully loaded TouchSmart all-in-one PC with a combination projector and scanner, plus cameras. Monsef is an engineering management adjunct professor and VP of Immersive Systems at HP.
Dr. Shana Fogarty '96 writes, "My husband and I just adopted our second son (Carter) in January 2015. We adopted our older son (Matthew) in February 2009. I work as a hospitalist and hospice medical director. We're celebrating our 10th anniversary next week. We've enjoyed the last 11 years in the Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, community."
Evangeline "Vangie" Maynard Cumming ’96, MBA ’13 married Stephen Ballard Cumming in a beautiful ceremony in Palos Verdes, Calif. Alumni in attendance included her brothers, Paul Maynard ’89 and Ryan Maynard ’91, and friends Valeri Yee ’96, Christy Duncan-Anderson ’96, Dawn McIntosh M.S. ’10, and Sonya Duffin ’98.
Heidi von der Mehden ’97 and husband Matt Harris welcomed their first child, Stephen Joseph, on Oct. 27, 2014. Heidi also has a new position as associate winemaker for Merry Edwards Winery in the Russian River Valley, Sonoma County. The family makes their home in Santa Rosa.
Mia Thibeaux ’97 writes, "I am now the mother of two wonderful children. I have a 5-year-old son and a 3-month-old daughter."
Kimberly Rodriguez ’97 recently began her position as chief education advisory to California Senate President Pro Tempore Kevin de Leon. Kimberly has worked for and with the California Legislature for over 15 years.
Tina (Johnson) Murray ’90, MBA ’97 lives in Los Gatos with her husband, Kirk, and her 13-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son. Tina continues fundraising for her daughter's local public school, and recently joined the board of directors of the Skylar Hadden Foundation to ensure program funding for her son's school program for children with Asperger's and ADHD. Tina is also serving on the Grand Reunion Committee for her class of 1990.

Thomas F. Fitzpatrick J.D. '97 is partner and co-chair of the Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Group of Pepper Hamilton LLP, resident in the Silicon Valley office. He recently was a speaker at The Knowledge Group/The Knowledge Congress Live Webcast Series, entitled: “Best Trends and Practices in Avoiding Trade Secrets and Third Parties Litigation.”
Mr. Fitzpatrick focuses his practice on all aspects of intellectual property, including litigating patent, trade secret, trademark, technology licensing and other related disputes. He has represented both patent owners and patent defendants in federal courts throughout the country, including in the Northern, Central and Southern Districts of California, the Eastern District of Texas, the Eastern District of Virginia, the District of Delaware, the Northern District of Georgia and the District of Arizona. Most recent, Mr. Fitzpatrick has successfully represented internationally based and publicly traded companies in the computer database, telecommunications, semiconductor, Internet and power supply industries.
At SCU, Fitzpatrick received the American Jurisprudence Award in Patent Law and was the research editor for the Santa Clara Computer and High Technology Law Journal.
