Reclaim and Celebrate St. Clare of Assisi

3:00 PM to 8:30 PM
Learning Commons and Library, St. Clare Room
Mission Church

We are celebrating the 800th anniversary of Clare of Assisi's departure from her noble family to join Francis and the brothers in their vision of renewing the Church. Recent scholarship is revealing an extraordinary woman, who was both a visionary and a leader.

The opening event will be a brief reflection by Andrea Carrera, Santa Clara alumna, on what Clare has meant for her. Immediately after Andrea's reflection, William Short, OFM, one of the finest international scholars on the Franciscan tradition, will present "Mirror, Mirror on the Cross: Clare of Assisi and her Modern Revival." A panel of alumna, staff, and faculty will respond to Brother Bill's presentation, after which the audience will be asked to join the conversation.

The afternoon celebration will be followed by a reception, from 6-7 PM.

At 7:30, the St. Clare Vespers Concert, composed by alumna Leslie Le Barre and conducted by alumna Elisse La Barre, will premier in the Mission Church. The orchestral chamber work will be performed by Bay Area musicians as well as SCU faculty and students, with soloists Nancy Wait-Kromm and Lilliane Crommer (both SCU faculty).

Cost: no charge
