2013 Bronco Legends:
1992-93 Men's Basketball Team
The year 1993 was an exciting one for the SCU men's basketball team. First, they beat the 1st place Pepperdine Waves in the WCC Tournament. Then, the 15th seed Broncos met the No. 2 Arizona Wildcats in the first round of the NCAA Tournament resulting in one of the biggest upsets in tournament history.
Some say the upset tops the list because of the way it happened and all the circumstances surrounding the game. First of all, Arizona probably should have been a 1-seed in the Tournament. Also, Santa Clara (19-12) was the third-best team in the WCC that year and was playing for the first time in 22 seasons without Carroll Williams as its coach.
After Arizona went on a 25-0 run and took a 46-33 lead with 15:26 remaining, everybody thought the game was over. Then the Broncos went on a 19-7 run, which was topped off by Pete Eisenrich hitting a jumpshot with 2:40 remaining, giving SCU the lead, and Steve Nash, then a freshman, making six of eight free throws in the final minutes.
