In honor of the 2010 remodel of the Donohoe Alumni House, the association buried a time capsule in the cement ramp behind the building. In this capsule lay items of great historical and sentimental significance to the people and community who make up SCU and the Alumni Association.
Pat Malley ’53 Wine Bottle
From 1959-1985 Pat Malley ‘53 served as Santa Clara’s Football Coach and Athletic Director. Malley was a mentor to many and, always the passionate Bronco, coined the term “Style and Class” when talking about the “S” and “C” of Santa Clara. It is nearly impossible to put into words the positive impact Coach Malley had on the SCU community. The included wine bottle (spelling error and all, “couch” instead of “coach”), a special reserve from Malley’s funeral mass in 1985, commemorates his memory and keeps it alive and well for those who finally unearthed this capsule.
2010 Vintage Santa Clara Wine Glass and Program
Vintage Santa Clara, a true Santa Clara tradition, celebrated its 27th Anniversary in 2010. Each year more than 2,200 SCU alumni, family, friends, faculty, and staff gather in the Mission Gardens on the Sunday after Labor Day to sample vintages from top California wineries (over half of them with alumni connections!) and food from Bay Area restaurants and shops.
Santa Clara Magazine – Summer 2010
The Santa Clara Magazine is one of the primary ways alumni keep up to date on everything SCU. Phoenix Suns point guard and two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash ’96 graces the cover of the summer 2010 issue. The issue is also notable for its articles on retiring Professors Giacomini and O’Keefe (Page 29), the Donohoe Alumni House (page 39), and the retirement of University Relations Vice President Jim Purcell (page 49).
2010 Grand Reunion Magnet and Invitation
In the Fall of 2009, the Alumni Association hosted its first “Grand” Reunion since 2003. The October 2009 Grand Reunion brought back 10 classes to campus, including the just recently graduated Class of 2009 for a “0” reunion. The October 2010 Grand Reunion included all the “Gianera” classes, including those celebrating their 50th, 55th, and 60th reunions, for a total of 13 classes. In all, over 2,500 alumni, family, and friends enjoyed a diverse offering of athletic, academic, spiritual, and social activities.

Fr. Locatelli, S.J. Funeral Mass Program
Paul L. Locatelli, S.J. ’60 was University President from 1988 to 2008. From 2008 – 2010, he served as University Chancellor and Secretary of Higher Education for the Society of Jesus until his passing on July 12, 2010 from pancreatic cancer. We include the program from his funeral mass (held on campus) to remind us of his legacy, which will shape us for generations to come.

“What Do You Remember?” / SCU History and Traditions Card

This card is handed out to alumni at various events in an effort to recall and collect campus memories and stories from across generations
Donohoe Alumni House Historical Pamphlet
Built in 1924, Donohoe originally served as the campus Infirmary. This pamphlet, published by the Alumni Association in the early 1980’s, provides a brief history of the building. Most importantly, it documents the transition of the building from the Infirmary to the Alumni House in 1975, and lists the alumni donors who made the refurbishment possible.
“Once A Bronco, Always A Bronco” Shirt
This t-shirt shares a sentiment all alumni of this great university feel. As the Alumni Association often reminds our students: You will spend 4 years on the Santa Clara campus, but you will spend a lifetime as part of the Santa Clara Family. Once A Bronco, Always a Bronco!
